Joanne Beatrice Sobczak Hahn transitioned to heaven on June 28, 2021 at her home in New Port Richey, Florida surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 18, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a much loved and admired daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents: Beatrice and Joseph Sobczak. Joanne is survived by her husband Willi W. Hahn and children: son, Walter (Alyson) Hahn of Prattville, Alabama; daughter, Linda Langley of Montgomery, Alabama and brother; Joe (Linda) Sobczak of Niles, Illinois. In addition she is survived by one granddaughter (Brandi Langley) and four Grandsons: (Kevin Langley, Joshua Hahn, Zachary Hahn, and Caleb Hahn) and three Great grandchildren (Axton Martin, Keleah Langley, and Brynleigh Hahn.)
Joanne graduated from Evanston High School in Evanston, Illinois and soon married Willi W. Hahn. To help support her husband while in college, she worked as a beautician. When Willi joined the military, she became an active military wife supporting her husband in his career. Later, she was instrumental in helping manage properties while she and her husband developed their real estate holdings. Joanne was able to do all of these business duties while still being an amazing mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren gave her the endearing name of “Nana”.
Joanne and Willi moved to New Port Richey, Florida from Montgomery, Alabama in 1995. Although far from her children and grandchildren, she continued to play apart in their lives through gifts, phone calls and visits.
Joanne enjoyed selecting watches and created a collection of various watch styles. She was proud of her Polish heritage and demonstrated it with her love of the color red. The red color on Poland’s flag symbolizes the many struggles for freedom over the centuries. Joanne’s family believes the color red symbolizes her triumph over the illness that caused her so much pain in her later years of life.
Joanne was always a spiritual person. She attended a Catholic School in Chicago throughout her elementary and junior high years. In Montgomery, Alabama she was a member of St Bede Catholic Church and she was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace locally in New Port Richey. Perhaps this is what led to her creation of a beautiful collection of crystal and porcelain angels. Joanne’s faith sustained her during her long illness and gave her peace near the end of her life. Joanne was never braver than in the last days of her life after being placed on hospice care.
She also loved riding in her “red” Cadillac, her son Walter’s motorcycle and personal watercraft. We all have stories of her adventures. She generously entertained her family and friends with meals out at restaurants. Her cokes always had to “be with lots of ice”. With her laughing eyes and winning smiles, she would tell her stories we all loved. As a mother/grandmother she listened to us, and then gave her words of wisdom and advice to guide us through our lives. She captured our hearts in many different ways with her love and compassion. Joanne was truly one of a kind. God broke the mold after he created her.
Pallbearers: Kevin Langley, Joe Sobczak, Joshua Hahn, Zachary Hahn, Caleb Hahn, and Dennis Glass.
