Ira Edward Hayes Sr., age 69, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; Ira Delphord and Marion Deloris Hayes and his twin brother, Delphord A. Hayes. Ira is survived by his1st wife, Joyce Hutcherson; 2nd wife, Maria Hayes; children Ira Hayes Jr., Francesco (Monique) Hayes, Jennifer Marie (Rocky) Stump; brothers, Earl (Kukhwa) Hayes, Timothy Hayes and Roy (Mary) Hayes; and 5 grandchildren, Frankie Jr., David, Max Ira, Alex and Jocelyn. Ira also leaves behind his companion, Joyce Pogue and her children Ida M. (Kevin) Slaughter and William Altice.
Born in Washington DC, Ira has been a resident of Port Richey, FL for the last 10 years. He served in the United States Navy and Army, eventually retiring as an Army Reservist after 23 years. Ira was a member of the VFW and devoted parishioner of Hicks Road Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 12 - 2pm with a funeral service at 2pm all on Tuesday, January 28 at North Meadowlawn Funeral Home.
