Gary R. Burns, age 76, of Holiday Florida passed away on Friday January 24, 2020. Gary was born on September 13, 1943 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to E. Gordon and Edna (Gill) Burns. As a young boy his claim to fame was that he attended 9 primary schools in 10 year, and always claimed his facial birthmark scar was from a fencing accident to impress all the girls. His early childhood passion was hockey that he enjoyed playing and following for his entire life, including getting his picture with the Stanley Cup after the Tampa Bay Lightning won in 2004. He graduated college from Sir George Williams University, Montreal, Canada with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, where he met his future wife Diane while traveling back home on the train. Later served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as SSGT. Further in life he also was involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a Webelos den leader, assistant Cubmaster, Cubmaster, assistant Scoutmaster, and commissioner while spending time with his two sons.
Preceded in death by his father E. Gordon Burns. Survived by his mother Edna (Gill) Burns, his loving wife of 54 years Diane (Oldfield) Burns; sons Scott (Susan) Burns, Craig (Shannon) Burns; grandchildren Shelby (Jordan) Haworth, Vincent Merritt, Brody Burns; great grandchildren Jaxon and Ava Haworth; brother Phil (Marnie) Burns; sister Diane (Doug) Sabo; nephews Ryan (Lynher) and Sean (Lindsay) Burns; niece Nicole Sabo.
