Winnie was the devoted wife of the late Judge Oliver Stanislaus Delery and the daughter of the late Claude John Kelly and Winifred Elizabeth Joyce.
She was the mother of Winifred (“Wendy”) Delery Hills, wife of John Fleury Hills, of Mandeville, LA; Anne Helena Delery Comarda; Joyce Mary Delery; and John Edouard Delery, Ph.D., husband of Susan Lynn Shackelford, Ph.D. of Fayetteville, Arkansas and the mother-in-law of Susan Fromherz Delery. Her son Oliver Stanislaus Delery Jr. predeceased her.
She was the grandmother of Kelly Christian Comarda, husband of Ashtoun Crites, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Amy Elizabeth Comarda of Mableton, Georgia; Jennifer Anne Comarda Voss, wife of Spencer Louis Voss; Julie Eleanor Comarda; Oliver Stanislaus Delery III, husband of Dr. Ashley Tufton Delery; Charlotte Villars Delery Tebbe, wife of William Stevenson Tebbe of Baton Rouge, LA; Robert Fleury Hills of Nashville, TN; and John Anthony Shackelford Delery, William James Delery, and Margot June Delery, all of Fayetteville, AR. Great-grandmother of Kole Christian Comarda of Edmond, OK, Jack Delery Voss and Anna Camille Voss of Metairie, and Braydon and Jordyn Crites also of Edmond.
She was predeceased by her siblings Claude John Kelly Jr. and infant Ann Joyce Kelly.
An honor graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart and of Newcomb College, receiving her degree shortly after her 20th birthday. She also attended Soule Business School.
Winnie served as president of the American Judges Foundation which is a national non-profit affiliated with the American Judges Assn. She also served as president of the Academy of the Sacred Heart Alumnae, the Academy of the Sacred Heart Mothers’ Club, and the Theresians. She served as a board member and/or officer of Newcomb College Alumnae Association, Tulane Emeritus Club, the DeLaSalle Parents’ Club, the Orleans Club, and the Twenty-Five Club. She had been a member of the Children of Mary Sodality, several genealogical organizations, the Fine Arts Club, several book clubs, the Southern Yacht Club, and the New Orleans Country Club.
In 2011, she was named Alumna of the Year of the Academy of the Sacred Heart. She was an Honorary Member of the Society of the Sons and Daughters of the Founders of New Orleans, a Great Books leader and an Extraordinary Minister of Communion at Incarnate Word Parish. She always supported her family in their activities, often babysitting grandchildren so their parents could be involved in the community. Winnie was always willing to open her home for events, especially those for family.
Upon her father’s death, she became the Chairman of the Board of New Orleans Cement Products, Co., Inc., the concrete pipe manufacturing company which he had founded.
A funeral will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd New Orleans on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at noon. Visitation from 10:00am. Eulogy at 11:45am followed by the Mass. Burial will be private.
