William Coates Charbonnet

William Coates Charbonnet passed away on April 16, 2023. He is survived by his mother Janie Stuckey Charbonnet, sisters Dorothy Charbonnet LeBlanc (Mark), Elizabeth Charbonnet Hopwood (Chris), and Cecile Charbonnet Kerber (Ben); nephews and nieces: Lucie Iles LeBlanc, Kate Allen LeBlanc, Hailey Elizabeth Hopwood, Madeline Cecile Kerber, Jackson Pierre Kerber, Benjamin John Kerber, Jr., and his dog Roux. He is preceded in death by his Father Kenny Maurice Charbonnet, grandparents: Peter G. Charbonnet, Hazel Kenny Charbonnet, Dorothy Iles Stuckey, and E. Coates Stuckey.

William Coates Charbonnet, “Coates”, was born on August 7, 1990 to loving parents Kenny Maurice Charbonnet and Jane Stuckey Charbonnet in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the pride and joy of his entire family as the “surprise caboose” brother to sisters Dorothy, Elizabeth, and Cecile Charbonnet. Coates spent his early years in Covington, Louisiana where he spent his days climbing trees, hunting frogs, fishing, swimming, and playing paintball. He later attended Kehoe France Elementary School in Covington where he became a star athlete in swimming, soccer, and baseball. One of his favorite memories in Covington was being a Paige for The Olympians Parade and riding next to his father on the King’s Float along with his sister, Liz, as the queen in 1996.

In 2003, Coates and his family moved back to New Orleans where he attended Jesuit High School and participated in football, wrestling, and served as class representative. He graduated Cum Laude in 2009. He also graduated from New Orleans Center of Creative Arts (NOCCA) for Bass Guitar in their Jazz Ensemble Program. It was during this time that he learned how to be “A man for others”, a wonderful musician, and a fan of all things New Orleans – characteristics that defined Coates for the rest of his life.

Following his High School Graduation, Coates attended Loyola University where he pledged Sigma Phi Epsilon and enjoyed summer programs abroad in Austria, Costa Rica, China, and Greece. Coates graduated from Loyola with a Bachelor of Business Administration, and moved on to attend Loyola Law School, where he graduated with his Juris Doctorate in 2016.

As a young professional, Coates worked as Legal Project Manager and Associate Litigation Attorney at Jacobs, Sarratt, Lovelace, Harris, & Matthews from 2016 to 2022. In January of 2023, Coates moved to Dallas, Texas to pursue what he considered his “dream job” as Project Manager for Turnwell Mental Health Network.

Coates was proud to be a “Card carrying member of the Who Dat Nation” – He loved playing music and paintball with his friends, attending music festivals, and anything that celebrated New Orleans Culture. He always put his family first and would do anything for them. He loved frying turkeys with his brothers-in-law and nephews, teasing his nieces, and showing up for anything and everything his sisters and mother ever asked him to do. He was a supportive uncle and brother, a faithful friend, and a devoted son. He spent his last days happy in the beautiful city of Dallas with his wonderful girlfriend, Caroline Crumb, who made him strive to be his best. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. The family would like to thank all of their friends and family who have been so supportive during this difficult time. They would like to extend a special thanks to Lambert family, Caroline Crumb and the staff at Cantabria at Turtle Creek Apartments and Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home for their help and kindness.

Friends and Family are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00am followed by a Chapel Service at 12:00pm. Interment in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to New Orleans Center of Creative Arts (NOCCA).
