Warren John Nolan, age 97, of New Orleans, was called home February 25, 2021. He was born on November 25, 1923 in New Orleans, LA to the late Ralph P. and Ruth B. Nolan. Warren was an alumnus of Jesuit High School and Tulane University, where he studied architecture. He was a proud WWII U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Pacific aboard an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Bunker Hill, CV-17.
He has an interview on file at the World War Two Museum in New Orleans, as well as his Tulane University NROTC Unit Sharing his WWII experiences. When Warren returned from the war, he finished his degree in Architecture at Tulane where he met his future wife Betty Ruth Davis. They were married in 1949 and were together until her death in 2017. Warren practiced Architecture in New Orleans and the surrounding parishes from southern Plaquemines parish north to Baton Rouge for over 50 years. He even built a “hurricane proof” weather station during the 1960’s for the U.S. Weather Service, which no storm has ever destroyed.
Warren was a lifelong sailing enthusiast and 75-year member of the Southern Yacht Club. In his younger years he was an avid racing sailor, competing in both One Design racing as well as off shore races. In his elder years he resumed the game of golf, which he had set aside in his youth. Warren is preceded in death by his wife Betty Ruth Davis Nolan; parents, Ralph P. Nolan and Ruth B. Nolan; brothers, Ralph P. Nolan, Jr. and Thomas H. Nolan.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Russell P. (Louise) Nolan and W. Davis (Ami) Nolan; granddaughter, Amanda Nolan; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, La. 70124 with a Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
