He was born in New Orleans on December 31, 1932 to Walter William and Santa Lofaso Parr. He was married to Betty Ann Bishop in 1952. Walter proudly served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy. He graduated from Tulane in June 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was a Professional Engineer and a member of A.S.M.E. Walter and his wife, Betty and children lived overseas for five years in the 60's before returning to New Orleans. He enjoyed a long career with McDermott International and Walk Haydel.
In his later years, he traveled the nation in his RV and enjoyed seeing the nation with his family. His children and family adored him and consider him to be a devoted family man.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Bishop Parr; daughters, Susan Mayoral and Jane Parr Elbaum; son, Charles William Parr; brothers, Robert G. Parr and Earl G. Parr; grandchildren, John Paul Mayoral, Elise Mayoral Lee, Stephanie Mayoral Armond, Jessica Elbaum, and Julia Elbaum; as well as eight great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 1 PM. Visitation will begin at 12 PM. A graveside service will follow in Lake Lawn Park.
