Sidney A. Soniat

Sidney A. Soniat passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at the age of 94. He was a native of New Orleans and resident of Metairie. Sidney graduated from Holy Cross High School, and he had a career as a comptroller at Dixie Produce and Packaging. He was a parishioner of St. Benilde Catholic Church, a member of St. Roch Social Club, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and part of the National Guard Reserves. Sidney was an avid painter, enjoyed golfing and all sports. He loved traveling and taking the scenic route; an avid walker who also loved to eat. Sidney is preceded in death by his parents, Paul R. Soniat, Sr. and Alma Koch; his twin brother, Paul R. Soniat, Jr.; and nephew, Brian A. Soniat. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen J. Soniat; his daughters, Cynthia S. Amerland (Billy) and Janet D. Brown (Bill); his grandchildren, Parker N. Downs (Meredith), Kerry M. Soniat (Matthew), Paul A. Downs (Lauren), Christopher Downs and Eric L. Amerland (Brittanie); great-grandchildren, Jon, Neil, Asher, Avery, Carson, Lena and Phoebe.
