Ruth Evelyn Roth Tippin

Her life reflected her love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ruth always had a smile on her face, a grateful heart, and a serving spirit.

She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved playing games with them. In her younger years she loved sewing, playing the piano, and bowling until rheumatoid arthritis caused these activities to cease.

She loved being outdoors, always marveling at the beauty of God’s creation.

Ruth was married to Ed for 59 years. They had three girls, Virginia Joyner, Lynn (Jan) Folse, Lisa (Ben) Clayton, and ten grandchildren, Kiel (Lea) Johnson, Sara (Patrick) Ramos, Rebekah (Austin) Robert, Andre Folse, Alexis Folse, Joshua (Amanda) Clayton, Matthew (Danielle) Clayton, Hannah (Mason) Schara, John Clayton, Jessica Clayton and 13 precious great grandchildren. During her marriage she was blessed to have numerous church families.

Ministerial callings included the Isle of Pines near Cuba, Sebring Florida, and 33 years at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church as a pastor’s wife. Ed and Ruth retired to Diamondhead, Ms. in 1989 and later moved to Covington, La. in 2007 to be closer to their children.

She was an active member of Church of the Pines, Village Church Lutheran, and since 2007, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Covington.

Ruth was born in Lexington, Nebraska to Hanna Thieme Roth and Carl A. Roth. She was the youngest of nine and is survived by two older brothers, Alfred Roth, age 97, and Carl Roth, age 104. She is preceded in death by six siblings, Elizabeth, Ted, Walter, Paul, Dorothy, and Victor. She graduated from Valparaiso University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked in the home and in the church throughout her life. Even in her later years she visited elderly friends who could not get out in order to minister to them. Her life was exemplified by trusting in God, knowing all things come from Him, and that He in her 95 years always supplied for her needs. She never met a stranger and was always eager to meet and share new friendships.

A private internment was held on Monday October 24th at Lake Lawn Mausoleum.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of victory to be held on Saturday November 5 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 N. Marigold, Covington, La.

Memorials may be given to Orphan Grain Train, Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne IN for student aid, Holy Trinity Lutheran, or a charity of your choice.
