Rosa “Rosie” Maria Vita passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Lacombe Nursing Centre in Lacombe, Louisiana. A native of New Orleans and resident of Mandeville, Ms. Vita was born on June 2, 1933, grew up in Uptown New Orleans, and graduated from John McDonough 35 High School. She managed the Henry Clay Apartments in New Orleans from 1964 to 1980. "Aunt Rosie" (as she was known by her family and friends) was a devoted daughter, loyal sister, loving aunt, dog lover, and fun friend. She lived life to her fullest despite whatever physical limitations she faced.
She is survived by her sister Anita Vita Boze of Mandeville; nieces, Yolanda Vita Trahan (Ken), Judith Windhorst Cahill (Chip), and Michelle Boze Toomey (Peter); nephew Rick Vita (Jill); three grandnieces; six grandnephews; three great-grandnieces; and six great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Giovanni Battista Vita; her mother Anna Maria Guariglia Vita; her brothers, Mario S. Vita and Geralto "Joe" Vita; her sister Josephine "Josie" Vita Windhorst; her brother-in-law Ron Boze; and her sister-in-law Lillian Folse Vita.
The family extends its sincere thanks and gratitude to the Lacombe Nursing Centre staff for the loving and devoted care given to Rosie.
Visitation and prayer services will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, with interment immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to St. Michael Special School and the New Orleans SPCA.
