Roosevelt McKnight, Sr., age 63, passed peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended Carter J. Woodson Junior High School and he graduated from B.T. Washington High School. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather to all who knew him. He loved having fun with family and friends and was known to always make them laugh and put a smile on their faces. Roosevelt loved to watch television and to socialize with others. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a retiree of the Sewerage & Water Board. He is the son of the late Vera McKnight and his surviving father Roosevelt Handy. He is also preceded in death by his two brothers Royal McKnight and Charles McKnight, Sr. and his longtime companion Valerie Sullivan. He is survived by his children Comma Jones (Anthony, Sr.), Roosevelt McKnight, Jr., Linda McKnight, Lakeisha McKnight, Schwanda McKnight-Alridge (Leo, Sr.) and five step children; nine grandkids Taronisha and TaJuan McKnight, Anthony, Jr., DaJuan, and Tre Garrison, Aaliyah and Leo, Jr. Alridge, Kayla Martin, and Andrew McKnight. Two great grandkids, McKenzie Banks and DaJuan Garrison, Jr. He is also survived by his aunts Rosetta McKnight-Williams, Fannie McKnight, Lillian McKnight-Freeman, Esttea Davis, and Louveina Nero.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park 10400 Old Gentilly Rd, New Orleans, LA 70127. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of service.
