He graduated from Behrman High School and worked for Todd Shipyard and the Sewerage and Water Board New Orleans as a pump plant operator at Algiers Station.
Ronald was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and truly embraced it and loved the city; his travels did, though, extend beyond New Orleans, as he was internationally well-traveled. He was an excellent chef, an oyster connoisseur, and enjoyed fishing. Ronald was an avid music lover and never missed the opportunity to attend a live music event. He was a Saints season ticket holder for 48 years and a Jazz, Pelicans, and Hornets season ticket holder. He was also an animal advocate and rescuer, providing a home to at least 7 dogs and 6 cats. Ronald had close, lifelong friendships and he was a loving husband and family man who would do anything for anyone.
He is preceded in death by his much loved mother, Grace Houin Newman, and father, Allen A. Newman, and much loved siblings, Geneve N. Smith and Allen A. Newman, Jr.
Ronald is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Cathy Lyons Newman; brother, Lee Louis Newman, Sr. (Jane); and many loved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation and memorial on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
