Robert Bailey Acomb, III, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 21, 2022 at the age of 68. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years Kay Nelson Acomb. The oldest of 5 children, he was affectionately known as “Robby”. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Greta LeBlanc Acomb and Robert Bailey Acomb, Jr. Robby is survived by his siblings Dwight LeBlanc Acomb (Kirsten), Greta Marie Acomb, William Ryan Acomb (Judy) and John Douglas Acomb, all of New Orleans. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Louise Acomb Smallpage (Jack), Margaret Sharp Acomb, Kathleen Ryan Acomb, Caroline Bailey Acomb, Catherine Mary Acomb, Elizabeth Acomb Crosby (Billy), Joseph Ryan Acomb (Michaela) and Mary Dalton Acomb, and great nieces and nephews to Dorothy “Dottie” Louise Smallpage, Jack Leighton Smallpage, Jr., Jane Sharp Smallpage, and Edward William “Teddy” Crosby. He will be greatly missed at family gatherings with the LeBlancs. Since Robby met Kay in the 1990s, they were inseparable. They enjoyed traveling the world and especially trips to the Florida panhandle, gardening, home improvement projects, and just spending time together at home.
Robby lived in uptown New Orleans his entire life. Robby graduated from De La Salle High School in 1972, Tulane University in 1976, and Tulane University School of Law in 1979, where he donated his time and talents. He practiced maritime law for over 40 years. He was a Life Member and Proctor in the Maritime Law Association of the United States, and he was recognized by as a top lawyer in Admiralty & Maritime Law. An English major in college, Robby was an avid reader with a wide range of knowledge from the classics to science fiction, computers, and current events. Robby was good hearted, and he will be missed by many lifelong friends.
Robby was a Past President of the Royal Society of St. George, and a member of the New Orleans Country Club, the Pickwick Club, and the Stratford Club, as well as several Carnival organizations. Acomb Jr.” by check sent to Tulane University P.O. Box 61075 New Orleans, LA 70161-9986. A private funeral was held.
