Richard ‘Dick’ John Olivier passed away late Friday afternoon, November 12, 2021, in Covington, Louisiana, after a brief illness. His son, Gary, and daughter-n-law, Michelle, were with him when he passed.
Dick was born in New Orleans on July 29, 1934, to Harry Joseph Olivier and Frances Delaney Olivier. After graduating from Holy Cross High School in 1952, Dick attended Louisiana State University, and then joined Army Security Agency of the US Army in 1956 where he trained as a Hungarian language specialist. After completing his military duties he worked in insurance sales, and then started a janitorial business with the assistance of his wife and sons. He moved with his wife, Judy, to Houston in 1990 and lived there with his son, David. In Houston he worked in printing sales and then part-time at the Houston Racetrack. In 2019 he moved back to Louisiana to live with his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Michelle, on their property near Hammond.
Dick married Judy Marie Simmons at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on December 2, 1961, and their marriage was blessed with three children: Richard John Olivier, Jr., David Lawrence Olivier, and Gary Michael Olivier.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Joseph Olivier and Frances Delaney Olivier; his wife, Judy Marie Simmons Olivier; his oldest son, Richard John Oliver, Jr., and his siblings, Rosemary Olivier, Ruth Olivier Carlock, and Harry Joseph Olivier, Jr. He is survived by his sons, David Olivier (Randal Fry), and Gary Olivier (Michelle Magnon Olivier), and grandchildren, Brandon and Corey Olivier.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 3:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 12:00PM. The interment will follow the service at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
