Phyllis Bunol Jones

Phyllis Bunol Jones, 96, peacefully passed away in her home at Christwood Retirement Community in Covington, La on the morning of November 10, 2017. She was born in New Orleans, La where she lived her entire life until moving to the Northshore 20 years ago. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years, C. Palmer Jones; her son, Thaddeus Bunol Jones and her parents Alice Barrios Bunol and Noel Joseph Bunol. She is survived by her son, Calvin P. Jones, Jr. (Diane) and Suzanne Jones Myers (Robert), five cherished grandchildren, Calvin P. “Trey” Jones, III (Joellynn), Christian H. Jones, Sr., Lauren A. Jones, Alyce M. Myers, Anne C. Myers and six great-grandchildren, Kayla N. Jones, Elizabeth M. Jones, C. Palmer Jones, IV, Marie-Elise S. Jones, Christian H. Jones, Jr. and Caden J. Tisdale. Phyllis was a 1937 graduate of Ursuline Academy and after graduating from Loyola University of New Orleans, worked as a medical technologist. Her home was always the center of celebrations and family gatherings. Her family and her faith were the most important things to Phyllis. She had a special devotion to Our Lady of Prompt Succor. She was a longtime parishioner of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She was an avid bridge player, voracious reader and a member of Garden Sprouts and a volunteer at NOMA, New Orleans tour guide and docent with the Old Ursuline Convent. She was the recipient of the Ursuline Academy Distinguished Alumna Award, 2004. The family would like to thank her exceptional caregivers; Sandy, Martha, Gladys, Juanita and Jackie; and the entire Christwood staff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2435 State St., New Orleans, La 70118. Visitation will be held at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, La 70471, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 10:30 am. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30 am.
