Normand Paul Aucoin

Normand Paul Aucoin passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the age of 85. Normand was born in Houston, Texas on January 3, 1931. Preceded in death by his parents, Normand Paul Aucoin, Sr. and Alma Von Slusher Aucoin, sister, Virginia Nell Cullens, daughter, Susan Aucoin, grandson, Randon Aucoin, and his cherished wife of 61 years, Geraldine “Gerry” Morasco Aucoin. Survived by his daughters, Bennie Aucoin Dorris (Clay), and Arrin Aucoin Gresse (Marvin), sons, Brenton Aucoin (Sandra), Patrick Aucoin (Nathalie), Michael Aucoin, and John Drew Aucoin (Nikki), ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. A very special thanks to his devoted caretakers, Lular Domino, Gayle Bolden, Brenda Albert, and Corliss Jones. Before graduating from Fortier High School, he worked for the States-Item covering prep sports. He attended LSU where he studied journalism. Normand served in the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant in the 529th FAOB in Karlsruhe, Germany, and later at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Persian Rifles and the Washington Artillery. Normand was a Home Builder and Realtor in the greater New Orleans area for over 45 years, and finished his career as an insurance agent with Aflac. He was a captain and a man of Manresa House of Retreats for over 35 years. Big Norm was a caregiver to all, a loving husband and father, and an avid LSU Tiger fan. “Be Shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.” (1 Peter 5:2-4). Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
