Nellie Jo Collins Leveque peacefully passed away in her home after a lengthy illness. Born on November 24th, 1949, and a native of Covington, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late Cecil and Helen Collins.
Nell was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Harry Farewell Leveque Jr. for 39 years. Devoted step mother of Renee L. Alterman (Henry), Vaunne Leveque (Bob Grundy), Linda L. Gralton (Bill), Bridget L. Whiteman (Andy), Harry F. Leveque III, Andree L. Padial (Martin), Jeannelle L. Little (Patrick), and Arthur A. Lancaster (Stacie). Loving step grandmother of twenty. Loving sister of Sam Collins (Sue), Tammy Lewko (Craig), and the late Duke Collins (Pam) and ten nieces and nephews.
Nell was a graduate of Covington High School and was proprietor of Santa Quarters and other French Quarter businesses. She was very active in many organizations including Patio Plant¬ers and St. Louis Cathedral. She received the Business Woman of the Year Award by the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce.
She loved entertaining and hosting weddings, parties, and Christmas at their house in the French Quarter. She and Harry traveled around the world and she enjoyed every aspect of her life.
As a devoted animal lover, Nell treasured her many pets.
The family is truly thankful to Tramia, Pam, Candy, Pearl, and Yvette, who were her devoted and loving caregivers throughout her illness.
She will be missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Louisiana SPCA or MD Anderson Hospital.
