Minnie “Mimi” J. Howell Lovett, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Kenner surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 21, 2017. With a selfless heart, energy and determination of an energizer bunny, Minnie was always there to lend a hand, shoulder or smile for support to her family and those in need. Born November 16, 1926 in Magnolia, MS to Malvern L. and Catherine Alma Pine. She attended Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans, Class of 1948, was a Registered Nurse at Baptist Hospital, VA Hospital, ICC Railroad Hospital, and retired from the New Orleans Public Health Department where she was supervisor at the St. Bernard Ave. Well-Baby Health Clinic for 23 years and Orientation Coordinator for incoming Health Department nurses. A St. Frances Cabrini Parish parishioner from 1952 until 2005, she was a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Parish Eucharistic Minister, Mass Reader, Altar Society, and Prayer Group; parishioner of St. Philip Neri. She always said she was blessed to have had two wonderful men in her life and was predeceased by her first husband, Alva Boyd Howell, Jr. of 29 years and her second husband, Edward Joseph Lovett of 7 years. She was predeceased by siblings T. Douglas (Mary), Alfred (died in WWII) and twin sister, Alma. A cherished matriarch, she was mother of Sheila Williams Allred (Wayne), Barbara Barach (Jeffrey), Janice Mott (Warren), Anne Simmons (Gary), step-mother of Edward Lovett (Mark Wilcox) and Thomas Lovett; Mimi to grandchildren: Joel Anderson (Cati), George Williams IV, Sahar Gullikson (Allen), Brett Williams (Melanie), Warren Mott III (Tissy), Dustin Mott, Paul Simmons (Emily), and David Simmons; 18 great grandchildren; beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt thanks to her wonderful caregivers: Ola Dugar, Sandra Hollis (she loved you both), and Passages Hospice staff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans with a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
