Maxime "Max" Verret

Max was born in Cajun speaking, White Castle, Louisiana on March 3, 1935 to the late Elise Landry and Edward Joseph Verret.

Soon after the beginning of World War II, the family relocated to New Orleans, settling in the Irish Channel.

Max received his early education at St. Alphonsus School and graduated from Fortier High School. Always one to do things his way, he worked for several years to save money for college tuition, no loans. In 1961, he received his BAA degree in Social Science from Loyola University and later his Masters in Social Work from Louisiana State University.

This began a long career in social work, starting with the State Welfare Department and then later as Assistant Director at Catholic Charities in Baton Rouge for two years before returning to New Orleans.

Max worked for many years in the Special Education Center at the University of New Orleans, lakefront until its closing. He then went on as a social worker in special education in Jefferson Parish Schools until his retirement in 2006.

On August 17, 1968, Max married the love of his life Caryl DeBlanc Verret and in the following years became a father.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Anne Verret Fulcher her husband Keith Fulcher, son David Verret his wife Eilene Hixon Verret. Affectionately known as “Grax” to his five loving grandchildren Christian, John and Marianna Fulcher and Jacob and Camden Verret.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Leroy Verret.

A lifelong devout Catholic who was most appreciative of the Jesuit education he received at Loyola University.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, February 19, 2022 beginning at 11:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.

In order to comply with Orleans parish regulations, everyone entering the funeral home must wear a facemask.
