Martin Bruno, Jr., of Slidell, Louisiana, entered eternal life on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the age of 78. Martin, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, was born on July 14, 1944 to Martin Bruno, Sr. and Lucy Cecilia Lentz Bruno. He was the beloved husband and lifelong sweetheart of Eileen Jeanfreau Bruno for 55 years and the devoted father of four children, Kimberly Eidson (Joe), Martin Bruno, III (Tracie), Jennifer Johnsen (Eric), and Christopher Bruno (Mary). He is also survived by one sister, Lucy Tetlow, nephew, John Tetlow (Renee), niece, Lisa Tetlow, twelve grandchildren, whom he adored and spoiled at every opportunity, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his goddaughter Laurie Tetlow, and one grandchild, Elise Bruno.
Martin was a devout Catholic that lived his life for his faith, family, and community. An Eagle Scout and Air Force veteran, his favorite activities included traveling the world with his loved ones, spending quality time with family and friends, and participating in activities with his local church, the pro-life movement, and various civic causes.
Martin received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Southeastern Louisiana University and spent most of his career serving as Planning Director for Terrebonne Parish and the City of Slidell. As a leader in his profession, he was ultimately bestowed the honor of Fellow for the American Institute of Certified Planners. He extended his civic involvement with numerous leadership positions, such as the President of the American Planning Association - Louisiana Chapter, Chairman of the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce, President of the St. Tammany Economic Development District, Treasurer of The Harbor Center Board of Directors, and member of the United Way Leadership Council.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 11:00AM until 2:00PM. The Funeral Mass will begin at 2:00PM in the chapel and the interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
