Sending my condolences to the family. May God give you strength and peace during this difficult time ( Psalm 29 : 11 )

I woke up Sunday morning, went to the kitchen to put a cup of coffee on, and then went outside to pick up the Sunday paper. I sat down after getting my coffee ready and started to look at the paper. The first thing I did was go to the Advocate's Metro section to see if Balestra's weekly grocery ad might start showing up there. To my suprise, I turned the front page and on the next page a persons picture just jumped off the paper towards me. It was no grocery ad; I just said "Mrs. Bryant".

It has been 38 years since I had Mrs. Bryant as a 7th grade English teacher at Belle Chasse. She was one of the handful of teachers that left a lasting impression on students - at least me. Most importantly, a class that you dreaded while you were in school, but later in life came to appreciate what an excellent job she did.

During my years at Belle Chasse, the school was blessed with having a stable of exceptional English teachers. In the past, I have seen some of those teachers and have expressed my gratitude to them. Sadly I did not have the pleasure of doing that with Mrs. Bryant.

I called a friend later that morning that I graduated with to tell him about Mrs. Bryant. He said: "boy, do I remember, you didn't mess around in her class". I told him that she was strictly business. I also said: "that if you didn't learn anything in Mrs. Bryant's class you had to be in a coma, and if you were in a coma, she would get you out of it and tell you that you had to write (Page 300) so many times for the next days class". Fortunately I was never on the receiving end of writing (Page 300).

All I can say is: a Class act, with no pun intended. To the family, extremely sorry for your loss.

I met Mrs. Bryant fifty-one years ago as my sixth grade teacher at Westbank Academy. She was a wonderful teacher. I can still remember her teaching us the now lost art of outlining. 
Years passed I graduated and came to Belle Chasse High School to teach and heard of the wonderful Mrs. Bryant who had just moved to Kansas. To our great fortune the Bryant's returned home. She was a mentor to us all.
After we moved to the middle school, Leah, May, Mrs. Bryant and I carpooled everyday. It was great. It was like group therapy everyday. We drove together on the day of the May third flood. I remember seeing the barstool float across her den floor. Andrea and I bailed out my old Buick for me to get home to my grandmother.
Years have passed and now I am Director of Student Teaching at Our Lady of Holy Cross. Many of the lessons and advice given by Mrs. Bryant are being passed on to these new teachers.
I want you to know how blessed I feel to have known her and hopefully followed in her footsteps.
I am sorry that I will not be able to attend Friday's gathering. I will be in Utah as a delegate to the Triennial Meeting of the Episcopal Church Women.
Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Lucretia during my first year of teaching. She held my hand and showed me the ropes.  She became a wonderful friend and colleague.  I will never forget the things she taught me to do as a teacher.  She was a great example of what a great teacher and friend should be.  Rest in peace! You made your mark and were look up to by many.
