Marie Louise Denny Buffington

Marie Louise Denny Buffington passed away on September 11, 2021 after living a spirited and full life. She was born in New Orleans, attended Sophie Newcomb College, was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. She spent her days as a homemaker, loved traveling and maintained an active life in the community. As a voracious reader, one of her fondest volunteer pursuits was reading on the radio for the blind. She was a wonderful and faithful friend, especially loyal to her dear friend, Virginia Davies. She was an amazing wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother who loved her family with all of her heart. She loved cheering on Tulane and LSU college football, playing tennis, and enjoying bridge with her friends.

She is preceded in death by: her husband of 46 years, Byrd Mayson Buffington, Sr.; her parents, Marie Louise Chappius Denny and Francis Otway Denny; her sister, Barbara Denny Kerr; and her brother, Francis Otway Denny, Jr. She is survived by: her daughter, Marie Buffington Summitt (Dan); her son, Byrd Mayson Buffington, Jr.; and her grandchildren, Charles Daniel Summitt, III (Lindsey) and Louise Summitt Devlin (Clay).

A memorial service will be held at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church at 1545 State Street in New Orleans, LA 70118 on September 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., immediately following a 1:00 p.m. visitation. Services will be officiated by Dr. Chris Currie and Rev. Sarah Chancellor-Watson. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we kindly ask that all guests wear a face covering.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to WRBH Radio for the Blind at 3606 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70115 or to St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church Music Fund at 1545 State Street, New Orleans, LA 70118.
