He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce J. Duhon, Sr. and Elvera S. Duhon and his son, Dennis Joseph Duhon.
L. J. is survived by his dear wife of 63 years, Melva Laneri Duhon; his two sons, Bruce Gerard Duhon (Tricia) and David Gerard Duhon (Linda Kiefer); his grandchildren, Derek M. Duhon (Amanda), Ashley M. O’flynn (Scott), Morgan A. Rathke (Richie), Taylor L. Culotta (Jason), Joshua R. Duhon, and Sydney A. Duhon; and his great grandchildren, Natalie O’flynn, Martin Rathke, Parrish Duhon, Elise O’flynn, Frances Rathke, Ivy Duhon, and Therese Culotta.
L. J. was born in New Orleans on December 1, 1938. He was a member of the Louisiana Air National Guard, and had many hobbies he enjoyed, including fishing and hunting. He was a draftsman and pipe designer and worked for several engineering firms including Burk and Associates and Shell Oil Company.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Home Instead, in particular, Michele Austin and Julietta John, and many others who provided extraordinary care, along with the staff at Care Hospice, who provided comfort in his final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 1:00PM. The visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:30AM. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
