Lawrence George Williams, the youngest of nine children, was born January 21, 1946 to the late Joseph Williams and Nora Madison Williams of New Orleans, LA. Family and friends lovingly called him George.
George graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1964, where he met and married his beloved wife Lillian Louise Jelks. He attended Southern University and A & M College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. George went on to enjoy a 30 year lucrative and fulfilling career at Union Carbide, serving 20 years in management.
Sharing a joint passion for plants and horticulture, George and Lillian established Williams Florist in 1981, making them one of the first African-American owned florists in New Orleans.
Upon retiring from Union Carbide, George took pleasure in traveling with his wife to attend NFL games, enjoying family gatherings and spending time on woodworking projects, a skill he learned from his dad. George valued education and took great pride in inspiring the next generation especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews to take advantage of the opportunities to fulfill their potential.
George accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church in New Orleans. He was a virtual member of The Spirit Church of St. Louis, MO where his son Aeneas is the senior pastor.
