The youngest child born to David Rolland Hooks and Linnie Rimes Hooks, Lamar O. Hooks passed away on December 9, 2024. He was 93 years old.
He is predeceased by his parents; his sister Dorathy Hooks Bonaguidi Sullivan; brother David R. Hooks, Jr. (Gloria); and he is predeceased by his loving wife, Joan Gunther Hooks. He is survived by his son Lamar (Neal) O. Hooks, Jr. (Natalie) and numerous cherished nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
He graduated from Fortier High School and attended Tulane University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and combat veteran of the Korean War, where he flew 64 combat missions as an airborne radio operator. He retired after 42 years with the New Orleans Clerks and Checkers Union Local 1947, ILA.
Funeral services will be at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. preceding services. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to First Baptist Church New Orleans, 5920 Canal Boulevard.
