Katharine “Kitty” Wainwright Martin Haydel died unexpectedly in her home on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at age 63. Kitty embraced life with an open heart and an open mind. Her love for family and bond with friends kept her anchored, giving her an enduring sense of purpose. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Margaret Howe Ford and the late Mr. John Trowbridge Martin and stepdaughter of the late Mr. Gerard Ford. Kitty was the granddaughter of the late Mrs. John May Martin of Bloomfield, Conn., formerly of Syosset, NY, and the late Mr. Martin and the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Saltonstall Howe of Lyme, Conn. Kitty was a native of Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, NY. After moving to New Orleans in 1976, Kitty worked at Hibernia National Bank for many years, most recently as the executive assistant to the Chief Investment Officer until 2003. She was an entrepreneur and also a Notary Public for Orleans Parish. Kitty leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Gary S. Haydel; son, Stephen Haydel; step-children Bryan (Shanna) of Orlando, Florida, and Christine Haydel of Dallas, Texas; and step-grandchildren, Liliana, Nylah, and Jayce Haydel. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Murphy (Richard) of Bend, Oregon, and her brother, John T. Martin, Jr. of Austin, Texas. Kitty was the daughter-in-law of the late Mr. Lawrence E. Haydel, Sr. and the late Mrs. Dolores Burbank Haydel. Her deceased siblings-in-law are: Lawrence Jr., Edward, Sharon, Mrs. Dale, and Mr. Dale Haydel; Linda Britton; Wayne Haydel and Carolyn Mesen. She is survived by siblings-in-law: Cecilia Bland, Carl Haydel, Maria (Eric) Roché, Merlin (Gail) Haydel, Rickey Britton, Anne (Glenn) Delery, and Theresa Haydel. Kitty is survived and fondly remembered by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many longtime friends in New Orleans and around the country. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., NOLA, 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00am.
