Julie Anne (Pastor) Dowling, 77, of Hobe Sound, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Nov 6th, 2016. Anne or “Annie” to those closest to her was born in San Pedro de Sula, Honduras in 1939; the eldest of five. She is survived by her sister, Alice Russell and brothers, Anthony Pastor and Robert Pastor of New Orleans. She joins her mother, Alicia Garsaud Davis and her step father Kenneth L. Davis of Jefferson Parish New Orleans, LA and brother Edward in heaven.
Anne moved to the city of New Orleans with her mother, grandmother and siblings in 1952 and remained there until she met the love of her life in 1958, James H. Dowling. After a whirlwind romance, Anne and Jim began their life adventure together in Madrid, Spain settling on Kapock Street in the Bronx. Over the 58 years they were married, Anne and Jim travelled the world together, from African safaris to Asia to London to visit her beloved sister Alice, and of course always back to New Orleans to be with family. A devoted Catholic, Anne also enjoyed playing and calling bingo at the local church wherever she lived or travelled. Together, Anne and Jim, lived in many places and had many friends but cherished their time most of all in Lake Forest, IL and the lifelong friendships and community of the Knollwood Country Club. Anne enjoyed joining her husband on the golf course, crushing her paddle opponents, and winning countless bowling championships. She was a talented cartoonist, avid reader and needle pointer whose amazing stockings adorn the family Christmas mantles every year. Anne’s greatest joy was raising and tirelessly supporting her three children, Jim, Ken and Tracy and enjoying her six grandchildren, Greg, Meghan, Max, Jamie, Kenny and her namesake Julianna. Later in life she grew her family to include her beloved boxers, Gunner and Bubba. Anne and Jim have resided in Hobe Sound, FL for the past 16 years.
Anne is survived by her loving husband, James H. Dowling Sr., her children James H. Dowling Jr. of New Orleans and his children Gregory and Maximillian, Kenneth and Lori Dowling of Memphis, TN and their children Meghan (Dowling) and her husband Brendan Gilsenan and Jamie Dowling, and Tracy (Dowling) and Fred Dufault of San Antonio, TX and their children Kenny and Julianna.
Celebration of Life will be held in her home town of New Orleans, LA at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on 14 JAN 2017 at 10am for viewing and 11am mass. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
