John Louis Walsdorf, Sr. passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the age of 74. He was born September 4, 1946 in New Orleans, LA to his loving parents, the late Elise Lauff Walsdorf and Jacob Charles Walsdorf, Sr. of Metairie, LA. Mr. Walsdorf is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Laurie Landry Walsdorf. Devoted father to Alicia Renee Walsdorf, Rebecca Walsdorf Nicholas (Christopher), Jaclyn Walsdorf Brignac (Benjamin), and John L. Walsdorf, Jr. (Kelsey). Very proud grandfather to Shelby Easley, Carly Easley, Marie Brignac, Stella Nicholas, Levi Brignac, and David John Brignac. Mr. Walsdorf is also survived by his siblings Jacob C. Walsdorf, Jr. (Esther) and Margaret Walsdorf Landry (A.J.) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends. He was a graduate of East Jefferson High School class of 1965 and was a United States Vietnam Veteran where he was an E4 Sergeant. Mr. Walsdorf studied under his father and became a master sheet metal, roofing, and coppersmith. He also taught the trade for 30 years at The New Orleans Bayou Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. One of his favorite pastimes was bowling and had recently bowled a perfect 300 game. Mr. Walsdorf was the very proud coach of the Holden High School Girls Bowling Team in which he helped them reach their potential they didn’t know they had. He was a parishioner of St. Anselm of Madisonville, LA and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 25 years. In that time, he was elected twice and served as Grand Knight for 2 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass at Lake Lawn Metiaire Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 1:00 PM until the service begins. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be sent to the Audrey Hepburn CARE Center, New Orleans Child Abuse Center, 210 State Street New Orleans, LA 70118.
