John William Parham died on November 2, 2014. Beloved husband of Diana Rosamond Parham. Father of Michelle P. Preston (Richard ) and the late David M. Parham. Stepfather of Beth H. Wester (Randolph), Katherine M. Hakenjos, Carl B. Hakenjos, Jr.(Shannon), Christopher G. Hakenjos Sr. (Terry),Thomas F. Hakenjos Sr., and the late Margaret R. Hakenjos. Grandfather of Marguerite S., Laura H., and Oliver J. Preston, and step-grandfather of Jennifer W. Clark(Jack), Emily F.Wester, Sarah R. Smith, Christopher G. Hakenjos, Jr.. (Angie), Hannah A. Hakenjos, Christine E. and Thomas F. Hakenjos, Jr., Tara and Ryan Deffes. Step-great-grandfather of Chase W. Hakenjos. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Samuel M. Rosamond, Jr. (Pat), several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William D. Parham, Sr., his mother, Rose F. Scullin Parham, sister Mary P. Leclere and half-brothers Arthur J. Parham, Sr. and William D. Parham, Jr. Born January 26, 1925, he was a World War II veteran who served aboard the USS Maryland, BB46. Wounded during the invasion of Okinawa, he was awarded the Purple Heart. A graduate of Loyola University in 1948, he began his business career as an Advertising Account Executive with the Times-Picayune, continuing in advertising sales at WDSU-TV, WVUE-TV, and WWL-TV. In 1987 he and his wife moved to Washington, D.C., returning to New Orleans in 2005. He was the third President of the St. Charles Avenue Association, served as a member and President of the Board of Trustees of the Academy of the Sacred Heart, and participated in “Dialogue in Black and White” as a co-leader of groups. For this activity he was extended associate membership in the Louisiana Group Psychotherapy Association. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, La. 70124 on Saturday Nov. 8, 2014 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will begin at 11:00AM. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart, 1128 Great Road, Princeton, NJ, 08540, a school for boys, of which his daughter, Michelle Preston, was a founder.
