“Well done thy good and faithful servant”. John B Baker Jr, lovingly called Johnny, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024. Johnny is now reunited in Heaven with his grandson, John Baker Flores.
Johnny was born in Abbeville and lived in Gueydan until his high school years when his family moved to Lafayette. He ran track and also played basketball. Johnny was a starter with the Lafayette High School Mighty Lions. Johnny was a talented ball handler, shooter and scorer. He was the forerunner of what is a point guard today. Johnny was a proud member of “A Dream Fulfilled” championship team of 1963.
After college, Johnny met and married the love of his life, Alta Sollay Baker. Together they worked in countries worldwide. Johnny spent the last almost thirty years helping to provide protection to the private, public and government sectors. These projects in many countries not only saved numerous lives but also led to countless lasting friendships.
Johnny was a gentle man always slow to anger with a forgiving heart and quick wit. He dearly loved his daughter, Victoria Baker Flores, and relished in teaching her the values of Amazon Prime, gadgets and travel, especially to Orlando.
Graveside service for Johnny will be held Saturday, March 2 at 1:00 in New Orleans at St Louis Number 3 cemetery. Johnny will be buried with his grandson, John Baker Flores.
Johnny’s brother, Tim Young Baker, MD will lead the pallbearers and honorary pallbearers in carrying Johnny to his final resting place. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Allen Prejean, Louis Perret, Colby Hahn, Jeremy Doucet, Winston Sollay, Christopher Montgomery, Ken Williams, Louie Colley, Steven Siegler, Allister Sollay (brother in law) and the Safe Haven team.

The John Baker family express their deepest gratitude to Dr Brad Broussard along with the outstanding nurses, respiratory teams and special CNA’s who lovingly cared for Johnny.
