was preceded in death by her brothers Noble Joseph Rogers, Jr. and Leon Joseph Adams. Also preceded in death by her loving spouse, David Kelly Lester from St. Louis, Missouri.
She is survived by her only daughter, Sharon Coffey Parsons (Kurt Bailey Parsons); two lovely granddaughters: Shannon Fitzgerald Thorne (Grant Thorne) and Candice Linn Fitzgerald as well as her pride and joy - three great grandchildren: Gaige Michael Thorne, 17; Savanah Rose Taylor, 15; and Karley Grace Thorne, 1. Joan loved her family dearly and left behind many nieces, nephews, godchildren and too many cousins to count! She also cherished her relationships with many dear friends (Y’all know who you are).
Joan was born and raised in the Irish Channel. As a child, Joan loved to perform on the stage singing and dancing. She loved school with a passion and made lifelong friends. Joan attended grammar school at St Mary’s Academy then graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1957. Joan never met a stranger and engaged in conversations with most everyone she met. She enjoyed entertaining, playing cards and bingo, and always looked forward to having company. Joan loved New Orleans cuisine and never
turned down an offer to dine out. She loved to spread the word about her latest favorite local restaurants.
Joan was an officer in numerous clubs: Senior Friends, H2U, and Mike Miley/Golden Ages to name a few. She stayed busy organizing casino trips for the Go Getters Club by Calco-Hotard buses. Joan was passionate about traveling. She loved Mardi Gras season and hosting St .Patrick’s Day parade parties. She enjoyed volunteering at Tulane Lakeside Hospital for many years. This brought her great joy, as it
was her way of expressing gratitude to the medical community who guided her in her journey to health after being diagnosed with melanoma.
Joan and her family would like to express their appreciation to the medical staff of Dr. Karan Zaveri, Pulse Home Health, Anvoi Hospice and Fidelis Northshore. The family would like to recognize and express their unremitting gratitude to Joy and Elvin Modico for their vigilant care over the years.
