She is preceded in death by her first husband William Joseph Burke and sister Theresa Lipps Morrison.
Jean is survived by her daughters Kay Burke and Tillie Burke (Al Gomez); bonus daughters Amy Verbois and Coleen Marshall; grandchildren Chelsea and Dylan; sisters Kay Martorana and Gail Pipkin (Jimmy Pipkin) as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins. She leaves behind her husband of 25 years, James Rabalais.
Jean graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1956 and attended the University of New Orleans. Jean retired in 2001 after serving 37 years with distinction for the Judge Advocate General of the United States Navy. She also owned and operated Accent on Taxes for 37 years and was a successful entrepreneur in many other ventures. Jean was a beautiful soul who was cherished by her family and friends. She loved to travel and spend time in her garden and was a voracious reader of legal thriller novels. After her retirement, she would take several months every year to stay with her daughter Tillie in Pasadena, California where she would dote on her two grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, June 10, 2023 beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. and a reception to follow from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
