Louisiana entered into eternal rest on November 12, 2023 surrounded by family.
Jackie, as she was known to friends and family, spent most of her life in New Orleans
where she graduated from St Joseph Academy in 1954 and Loyola University in 1958 with a
degree in Education. She worked for several years as a teacher in the New Orleans Public
School System and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a parishioner
of St James Major Catholic Church in New Orleans. After Hurricane Katrina she relocated to
Covington, La where she was a parishioner at St Peter Catholic Church in Covington and a
member of the Ladies Altar Society.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman J. Holmes, her brother
Robert W. Holmes and her husband of 41 years James M. Hemstreet Sr.
She is survived by her two children, Mary Beth Hemstreet Mulholland (David) and James M.
Hemstreet Jr. (Sherry) and three grandchildren Aidan M. Mulholland, Evangelista J. Hemstreet,
and Maegan E. Mulholland. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Trace Senior Living Community especially
the Memory Care staff as well as the staff of Passages Hospice for their wonderful care.
A visitation for Jacqueline will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a funeral mass from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery.
