Ivin J. Detiege, Sr, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away November 12, 2024, at 93, following a long illness. He was a devoted reader of the Word of God and an avid historian. Education was extremely important to him; hence, he was a dedicated educator in the New Orleans Public School System. His alma maters are Daneel Elementary School, McDonald 35, Southern University of Baton Rouge, and Loyola University of NOLA. He enjoyed watching the news and sports, especially the New Orleans SAINTS and the Southern University Jaguars football teams, as well as his favorite soap operas. He served his country as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army Tank Division and was honorably discharged in 1957. Preceded in death by his parents, Mandeville and Mary Tingue Detiege; brother, Rueben Detiege; grandchild, Travis Williams; and great-grand child, Meagan Renee Turner. Ivin is survived by his sister and brother, Joyce Brown and Melvin Detiege. He leaves behind with his former wife, Barbara Ann Dukes-Detiege Blythe (deceased), their children, Ivelynn, Ivin, Jr., Stephanie, and Joel and stepson, John Kent, and a host of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. As a lifelong member of Philips Memorial United Methodist Church, Ivin’s celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024. The funeral service is at 11 AM following visitation at 10 AM.
