Henry John Dauterive, age 82, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda Lala Dauterive and his daughters Denise Dauterive Richard (Michael) and Angele Dauterive Miller (Charles). Son of the late Henry Sidney Dauterive and Anna Chimento Dauterive. Brother of Jerome A Dauterive (Peggy), Brother-in-law of Joseph M Lala (Peggy). Grandfather of Sean and Ryan Miller. Uncle to Lisa Dauterive Schlosser (Eric), Michele Dauterive Bravo (David), David Dauterive (Nicole), Jason Lala, and Brian Lala.
Henry was a native of New Orleans and Metairie for 72 years before moving after retirement to Birmingham, AL to be with his children and grandchildren. He graduated from Holy Cross High School (1960), a Business Graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University (1964) and received an MBA from Loyola University. While attending Southeastern he was a member of the Kappa Delta Tau Fraternity. He also served his country in the Louisiana National Guard Head Quarters detachment.
Henry began his 48-year accounting career at Jahncke Service and worked at a number of local firms ending his career at Crescent Crown Distributors. He was an avid golfer and a member of Green Crest and 19 Holes Golf clubs in New Orleans. During his time in Birmingham, he was a member of the Altadena Group at Bent Brook Golf Course.
Henry had a passion for sports, particularly golf and tennis. He often remarked that his three holes-in-one at City Park were his greatest golfing achievements. Henry was deeply devoted to his wife and children, who were always his top priority. He adored his grandsons and was immensely proud of them. Henry had a great sense of humor, and a good joke could brighten his day. He was a fan of early rock and roll music and enjoyed listening to his CDs.
In his later years, he found it difficult to watch Saints or LSU football games, as his blood pressure would rise, especially if they were losing. While living in Metairie, he attended St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, and after moving to Birmingham, he attended Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Henry always strived to be an honorable man, going the extra mile, and never shying away from a challenge. His absence will be deeply felt by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd at 1:00pm on Friday, December 6, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:00am. Interment will be held privately for the immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Henry’s memory to Holy Cross High School or Mount Carmel Academy.
