Heather LaCorte Johnson

Heather LaCorte Johnson passed away at her home early Sunday morning, January 16, 2022 due to complications from pneumonia. She was 44 years old. Born in Morristown, New Jersey, Heather moved with her parents by train to New Orleans, Louisiana when she was 11 days old and became a lifelong resident.

She was the granddaughter of Nicholas St. John LaCorte, mayor and state representative from Cranford, New Jersey and great-granddaughter of Salvador LaCorte, Superior Court Judge of Union County, New Jersey.

Heather was a loving mother, daughter, and sister and a smart, charming, and stunningly beautiful person. She loved her precious children, Catherine and Charles, deeply and completely with every ounce of her being.

Heather graduated from Metairie Park Country Day School, where she excelled in the classroom and on the athletic field as a tri-sport athlete, winning 12 varsity letters and all-district honors. She then graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, where she was a member of the SPURS Sorority and the women’s soccer team, participating in the 1995 National Collegiate Women’s Soccer Championship, Division III. Heather returned home, graduated from Loyola Law School, and worked with Matt Greenbaum to champion the rights of individuals with disabilities in Social Security and Federal Court. In the courtroom, she won unwinnable cases, zealously advocating for her clients. She was an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and had been an active member of Junior League of New Orleans. She was always a force to be reckoned with, often pushing the envelope, providing those who encountered her with many challenging opportunities for their own growth.

She is survived by her children Catherine and Charles, her parents Karen (Lynch) and Dr. William St. John LaCorte, her sisters Jennifer LaCorte Marsiglia (Michael), Katie LaCorte Teen (Dominick), her brother William S. LaCorte II, six nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. She is also survived by Cameron Johnson her former husband and loving, supportive father of their children.

The family thanks the skillful and dedicated doctors and nurses at Touro Hospital, particularly those in the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, 5 West, and Dr. Neil Ninan.

The family is sincerely and eternally grateful to all who loved and supported Heather throughout her life, especially Sister Nicholas Schiro, Monsignor Andrew Taormina, and Dr. Sherif Sakla for their long-term advocacy and support; and Judge Chick Foret, Dr. Erik Whitfield, Dr. Brad McConville, and Janet Hayes who effectively guided her along her mental health journey and gave Heather and her family the gift of happier times in her final chapter of life. We hold those memories dear and have hope for growth for all who struggle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home (5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70124) on Monday, Jan 24, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 1:45 p.m.
