George was born on June 19, 1941 to George Duffy, Sr. and Gladys Ray Duffy in New York, NY. After serving in the Air Force, he went on to receive his MBA from Loyola University and became very active in the maritime industry, spending over 60 years on the Mississippi River. George served as the Chairman of the Louisiana Governor’s Maritime Task Force and as a Director and Chairman for both the Steamship Association of Louisiana and the New Orleans Board of Trade. From 1981 to 2012, Mr. Duffy worked in different capacities for Navios Ship Agencies that culminated with the collective purchase of NSA Agencies, which was eventually purchased by T. Parker Host. George has spent much of the last decade as a trusted Maritime Consultant and valued expert witness. He was the recipient of the C. Alvin Bertel Award in 1992 and the Propeller Club Maritime Person of the Year Award in 1993.
George was predeceased by his parents, George Edward Duffy, Sr., Gladys Ray Duffy and his son, Michael Keefe Duffy. He is survived by his spouse of 42 years, Patricia Marsh Duffy and his children, Sean Michael Duffy, Sr. (Michele Robert Duffy), Anne Duffy Klein (Eric William Klein), and Kevin Patrick Duffy (Shaye Sedotal Duffy). He was also survived by his siblings, Gladys Duffy Salva, Carol Duffy Joy-Mooney, and Dennis Francis Duffy. George was blessed with five grandchildren, Sean Michael Duffy, Jr, Grace Elizabeth Klein, Faith Rebekah Klein, Adalynn Rose Duffy, and Keigan Patrick Duffy.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday May 25, 2022 from 5-7:30pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. On Thursday May 26, 2022, a funeral mass will begin at 12:00pm with visitation at 10am held at St. Ann Church and Shrine located at 3601 Transcontinental Dr, Metairie, LA 70006. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
