She was known for her fantastic sense of style and fashion, incredible wit and humor, fiery personality, generosity of spirit and time, and her unerring devotion to family and friends. A true creative soul, her home was beautifully filled with the treasures she discovered hunting the antique shops of Magazine Street or the French Quarter. She was an excellent cook and gracious host of many theater cast parties and family gatherings. Mrs. Benjamin enjoyed a long career in fashion at D.H. Holmes and upon retirement golfed, enjoyed the arts, and traveled extensively with her husband, Adrian C. Benjamin, Jr., until his passing in 2013.
Unfortunately, as with her husband, Alzheimer's extracted a toll on her recent years and the Covid pandemic made her contracted world even smaller. We are incredibly grateful to her loving caregivers, Cageral Bowman, Willa Onidas, Brenda Burton and Kisha Heard, who fostered her independence and allowed her her dignity throughout the journey.
Mrs. Benjamin is survived by her children, Denise (David) L’Hoste and James (Catherine) MacPhaille and, through Adrian, daughter, Adrienne Benjamin (Steve Horowitz). Her son, John Faill V, predeceased her in 2019. Also surviving Mrs. Benjamin are her eight grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Bridget and Brandon MacPhaille, John and Micheal Faill, Matthew Horowitz, and Zoe Benjamin. Many thanks to the staff of the Carol Condominium for their many kindnesses.
A special thank you to Danielle, Candace, Libby and Randi with Passages Hospice for their kindness and support.
Donations, in her honor, to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) would be lovely and appreciated.
As was Mrs. Benjamin's wish, no services are planned.
