Dorothy “Dolly/MeMe” Stout Orth passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, May 28th at the age of 85. She was a life-long active member of First English Lutheran Church where she met and fell in love with her late husband of 54 years, Louis “LP” Orth, Jr. She was a loving middle-sister to her brothers John Stout, Jr. (Cissy) and Donald Stout, Sr. (Rose). With LP, she began her matriarchy having 6 children over 17 years: the late Louis “Louie” Orth , Lawrence “Larry” Orth, Sr. (Mary; dec. 5/28/23), Leonard “Lenny” Orth (Rhonda), Laurie O. Anderson (Ron), Linda O. Wright (Kevin), and Lonny Orth (Allison). Her first grandchild, Nicole O. Guhman (Jason), called her “MeMe,” which became her name from then on used by her grandchildren: Lisa O. Johnson (JJ), Jessica Guillory (Ed), Lawrence Orth, Jr., Leonard “Leo” Orth (Abby), Mandy B. Pierre (JP), Megan B. Browning (Jeremy), Benjamin “Ben” Galvan (Enrique), Christopher “Chris” Anderson (Jeff), Kevin “Conner” Wright, Evan Wright, Loki Orth and Zelle Orth, and her precious 14 great-grandchildren. She was the very definition of a Mother/Grandmother/Great-grandmother, which she extended to those outside the family as she playfully, yet sincerely “adopted” many others whom she would house, feed or simply love. For over 30 years, many of her “honorary adopted” children were the students of Tulane University’s School of Engineering where she became a well-respected mentor, colleague, friend and Administrative Executive. Dolly/MeMe enjoyed dancing, playing music, sewing, playing cards, watching sports, cooking, listening to the calliope being played on the riverboats, eating crab, Mardi Gras, and the many family events.
Relatives, including all “honorary adopted” children, and friends are invited to help celebrate her life on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at a Memorial Service to be held at 11AM with visitation from 9:30AM until service time at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Inurnment will immediately follow at Lake Lawn Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Michael Special School, 1522 Chippewa St., New Orleans, LA 70130, in honor of her beloved great-grandson, Jake Guhman.
