The sun went behind the clouds and the warm air had a chill for a moment on Friday, October 7, 2016, when Delbert “Dan” Becker departed this life on Earth and drove through the Pearly Gates of Heaven on his Harley. He went straight into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and at last, he was at peace. No more pain from the terrible ALS that took him from us; no more problems. Dan was the best man I have ever known. He was good, kind, considerate, generous, forgiving and non-judgmental, and had a wonderful sense of humor. To borrow from a commercial, ‘nobody didn’t like Dan Becker’. The minute they met him, they wanted to be his friend.
Dan was born in Williston, ND, on August 31, 1944, and grew up on a farm in Froid, MT. He is predeceased by his parents, Willard G. Becker and Ruth Nesbitt Becker, and by his two brothers, Dick Becker and Bob Becker. He is survived by his loving wife, Dixie Becker, his son Daniel Becker (Tasha) and grandchildren Ethan Becker and Carson Becker. Also survived by stepchildren Randy Teel (Dee) and Rhonda Teel, stepgrandchildren Billy Teel (Laura), Brittany Teel, and Bianca Rivera Ziegler (Andrew), two stepgreat-grandchildren, Sabrina Oertling and Triston Teel; and also survived by three loving sisters, Mary Ann Becker Overland (Terry), Norma Becker Hecker (Jim) and Jody Becker Heflin (Jerry). Also survived by dozens of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dan was a master craftsman and carpenter when working with wood. He carved wooden toys for the grandchildren and he could build a house from the ground up. He could fix anything that was broken; and if it was already working, he could make it work better. He was a high school graduate with one year of college, but he had an engineer’s mind and the wheels were always turning. He designed a drainage system in our yard that sent water from our back yard draining into the street in the front, preventing the house from the flooding during heavy rains.
Dan worked for thirty years at the Gulf Oil refinery near Belle Chasse (now Conoco-Phillips) as an Operator. Dan served in the US Army from 1963 – 1966 and was in the Army reserves for the following 6 years.
Dan was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, the Legion Riders, HOG (Harley Davidson) and the Trailblazers.
Wait for me, my darling Dan; it shouldn’t be long. When I arrive, I’ll expect you to be waiting on your Harley, smiling, and holding our little dog, Brandi, on the seat wearing her “doggles”. Brandi was born to ride! LYTM from your ‘Delicious Dynamite’ (your words!) Dixie
