David Wardlaw Moore III, beloved husband of Amelia Day Moore and proud father of Mary Elizabeth Moore, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, after a long and well-fought battle with cancer. David was born in New Orleans on October 28, 1966, the only child of Carol Corbin Collins Finley and David Wardlaw Moore, Jr. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Christian Corbin Moore, his stepfather, Ridgely Thomas Finley, III, and his mother-in-law, Harleen Rothenberg Collins. He is survived by his parents, stepmother Diane Moore, father-in-law, Col. Foster Harris Day, USAF(Ret.) and mother-in-law, Linda Ravan Day. He is also survived by his stepsisters, Miriam Ogden Finley, Elinor Finley Dorsey (Dan) and Charlotte Finley Viguerie, his step-brothers, Ridgely Thomas Finley IV and Matthews Cook Finley, his brother-in-law, Andrew Jay Zielinski (Anastasia), 1 niece and 5 nephews. David grew up in Folsom, Louisiana, graduated from Saint Paul's School in Covington and received a BSM in Finance from Tulane University, where he was a member and President of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was a longtime manager with Bed Bath and Beyond, Inc., but his passion was creative writing. A gifted poet and writer, he was the author of several published poems, books and short stories, including Marie Laveau's Hot Pink Hearse, The Shroud, The Last Boy: An Alternative Pan Short Story and From the Midst of the Maelstrom. He was also an avid and accomplished photographer. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1031 S. Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. before the Service. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Cancer Research Institute, One Exchange Plaza, 55 Broadway, Ste. 1802, New York, New York 10006, www.cancerresearch.org , are preferred. The burial in Metairie Cemetery will be private.
