Daniel J. Barrett, Jr. went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2018 after a short illness at the age of 101. He was born in Algiers, Louisiana on March 25, 1917 to Daniel J. Barrett, Sr. and Lillian M. Lange. He was a 1934 graduate of Jesuit High School and a 1938 graduate of Loyola University both of which he was very proud to be associated with. He served as an officer in the Army Reserve during World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring in 1972 with the rank of Colonel. Dan was preceded by his parents, his wife Patricia O'Brien Barrett, his son Richard L. Barrett and his brothers Dennis J., Francis X., and Msgr. Gerald Barrett. He is survived by his son Frank O. Barrett, daughter Jan Barrett Dye, son- in-law Patrick Dye, grandsons Brandon H. Barrett, Daniel, Benjamin, and Eric Dye, great-grandson William Richard Barrett and brother Bernard Barrett. Dan was an active member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus, Council 3729 and was a resident of Lakeview for 65 years. Masses Preferred.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 12:00pm at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 775 Harrison Ave., New Orleans. Visitation at church will begin at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum.
