Charles “Charlie” Giraud, Jr. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He would do anything for his family and was both a good friend and good neighbor to many. He made every word count and had a quiet but wry sense of humor.
Charlie served in the Navy as an electronics technician and attained the rank of petty officer second class.
For four decades he served as an electronics technician with the Federal Aviation Administration and received numerous awards for the high quality of his work. He was one of the founding members of the Knights of Columbus chapter at St. Angela Merici church, where he was a parishioner. He was also very involved with the Boy Scouts of America when his sons were involved.
Charlie loved fishing and shrimping in the marshes of south Louisiana and shared his passion with his children and grandchildren. He believed in his Catholic faith and infused that faith in his family.
He was a master craftsman with a passion for cabinetmaking and woodworking. He built his house and much of the gorgeous furniture in it. Charlie was a perfectionist in everything he did, from building to gardening to cooking. Anything worth doing was worth doing with care and attention. Once he decided to do something, he had exceptional drive and determination to finish it well. His smile lit up a room.
Charlie was the son of Catherine Fonte and Charles A. Giraud, Sr., now deceased. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 66 years; his sister Catherine Giraud Fontenot; his children Charles A. (Terri) Giraud III, Albert D. (Minette Mire) Giraud, Suzanne G. (Glenn) Voss, and Jacques L. (Katherine) Giraud; his grandchildren Rachael Thriffiley, Rebecca Best, Renee Liu, Charles (Tony) Giraud IV, Elizabeth Love, A. David Giraud, and Robyn Giraud; and great grand-children Colin, Connor, William and Mary Thriffiley, Caroline, Cece and Brooks Best, Benjamin Liu, and yet Unknown Baby Love.
