Carolyn L. Scanlan passed away after a long battle with cancer on Friday, October 16, 2015, in New Orleans, LA, where she was born August 31, 1933. She has joined her beloved husband Henry C. Scanlan in heaven. Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; president of the Irish Cultural Society; devoted member of St. Frances of Cabrini Church; and avid animal lover. She was involved with her children’s lives as the Boy Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Troop leader. Carolyn never turned anyone in need away. Her house and cooking became the home and food for many. Carolyn is survived by her children Rusty Scanlan and fiancée Pam Hartman, Kathy and husband Doug Beckman, Jackie and husband Jerry Zeller, Danny Scanlan and wife Kathy Barton-Scanlan; by her grandchildren Breah Scanlan, Sammy Scanlan; Erin, Kelly, and David Beckman; Carrie and husband Jeremy Martinez, Ryan, and Emily Zeller; by 8 great-grandchildren; and by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Lucien Lestremau and Emily Villa; daughter-in-law Cindy Scanlan; stepmother Elvina Lestremau. The family would like to thank the people at Mary Bird Perkins, Slidell Memorial, Notre Dame Hospice, the Sister Servants of Mary, the Teresian Sisters, but especially Shawn and Nelly, whose constant care and companionship for Carolyn made it easier for her and the family during these last few weeks. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 12:00pm. Visitation will be on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and then again on Tuesday beginning at 10:00am until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
