Carol Huesman Schaefer

Carol Huesman Schaefer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was 76 years old. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky, before moving to the heart of Lakeview, New Orleans, at the young age of eight. She attended St. Dominic Grammar School and was a member of the first graduating class of Cabrini High School. Carol met the love of her life, Richard Schaefer, Sr., married and gave birth to one son, Rickie Schaefer, Jr.

She was a retired Officer of Whitney Bank. She would fondly refer to those she knew as “Swift, Swifty, Butz or Chief” She could be found in her usual “spot” in St. Dominic church every Sunday for her entire adult life.

Once her grandchildren were born, she was fondly referred to as “Oma” in respect to her German heritage.

Beloved wife of the late Richard J. Schaefer, Sr. daughter of the late Edward Francis Huesman and Thelma Gruber Huesman. Loving mother of Richard J. Schaefer, Jr. mother-in-law of Tracie Morris Schaefer, sister of Jean Canzoneri and the late Leonard Huesman (Tessie) and Lawrence Huesman (Cindy), and sister-in-law of Susan Jenkins. Adoring grandmother of Rexford Schaefer and Raegan Schaefer. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

We thank God for our earthly time with our dear Mom, Aunt, Swift and Oma. We found assurance that her husband was there to escort her to Our Lord on the 21st Anniversary of his own passing. She will be missed very much.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124, on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow Mass in All Saints Mausoleum.
