Bernard Louis Hill, Jr., 92, passed away at his home in River Ridge, Louisiana on July 15, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Louis Hill, Sr. and Evelyn Marie Owen. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Jean Donovan Hill; children, Patricia Lee Hill Wilton (Thomas), Douglas Owen Hill (Lisa) and Matthew Donovan Hill (Lynne);grandchildren, Thomas Heard Wilton, Jr., Andrew Bernard Wilton (Stacey), William Owen Wilton, Tyler Owen Hill, Maegan Catrenia Hill Whittle (Jessie, Jr.), Ethan James Hill; great grandchildren, Bella and Madison. Bernie retired after 40 years of service at Chevron as a Biostratigrapher, Geologist, Micropaleontologist. He had a Bachelor’s and Masters degree in Geology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of the Science Fraternity of Sigma Xi, American Association of Petroleum Geologists and New Orleans Geological Society. He was a veteran of the United Sates Navy and served fleet submarines on tenders, relief crews and prize crews in the South Pacific during World War II. After the ’95 Flood, he joined the East Bank Soniat Canal Drainage Board completing drainage maps and mapping and attended all of the meetings. The family wishes to thank Shontel Thompson and Lakeside Hospice for their loving care and compassion. Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans. Visitation will be held prior to the service and will begin at 9:00 a.m.
