Barbara Elliott Wedemeyer, age 84, resident of Metairie, Louisiana, and the French Quarter, died on Thursday, August 6, 2015. Born in Los Angeles, California she was the daughter of Angelina and William Bennett. She attended Eleanor McMain High School, LSU, and UNO.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of thirty-one years Bill Elliott Jr. Survivors include her four children: Bill Elliott III, Barbara Higgins, Betsy Guepet, Beverly Branch; two sons-in law: Dale Higgins and Henry Guepet; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is her husband Hugo Wedemeyer, the second great love of her life,
with whom she enjoyed twenty-two years of marriage. She shared with him his four children and their spouses, Carl and Susan Wedemeyer, Eric and Sachi Wedemeyer, Lisa Rogers and Chuck Sears, Kristie and Matt Hilgaertner and five more grandchildren. She claimed to be the luckiest woman in the world to have had a great family and two husbands whom she loved and loved her.
Her early years were spent as a homemaker. Starting in the 1970's she became a local personality doing TV and radio commercials for the likes of Rosenberg's (Betsy sang... 1825 Tulane!), Dryades Saving and Loan (Hootie the owl lady) and Paretti Pontiac. She carried on Bill's legacy as the CEO of Elliott Advertising Agency.
She was an active civic leader as Board Chair of the East Jefferson Hospital Foundation, Board Chair for Junior Achievement of Southeast Louisiana, Board member of the Louisiana Cooperative Services on both Parish and State Levels, Board member of the Cenacle Retreat House and an ardent supporter of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
The family will begin receiving friends on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Lake Lawn Funeral Home. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m.
