Barbara P. Thompson, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Funeral services will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana, 70124 at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2024. A visitation will begin at 11am until Mass service time. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. Barbara was born on January 10, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Aaron and Emily Powell. On September 30, 1950 she married her love, Clyde J. Thompson, Jr. and together they had seven children. Barbara was a 1944 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and then completed Soule Business School. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen for over 70 years. She loved to give back to the community and volunteered at the Lighthouse for the Blind for 32 years, St. Mary Magdalen for over 20 years, and East Jefferson General Hospital, with her husband Clyde for 18 years. She loved square dancing at the Bar None Ranch, camping with the Dixie Wheelers, being a member of the Lakeside Homemakers for 54 years, playing piano, and was an avid gardener. Barbara loved life and cherished her family. She was most comfortable nurturing and caring for her husband Clyde and her family. Her legacy of family first and caring for others will live on through them. Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband Clyde J. Thompson, Jr., grandchild, Kristi Thompson and her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Fridge (Johnny), Julie Kyle (Billy), Margie Russo (Danny); her sons, Michael Thompson (Vanessa), Dan Thompson (Claudia), Bill Thompson (Colleen), and Brian Thompson (Eileen); 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patty Mount and Libby Jones, and her brother, Daniel Mason Powell. The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the caretakers over the years, especially, Pamela Brown, Debra Martin and the staff of Dreyfous House and St. Michael’s Assisted Living.
