Antoine Joseph “A.J.” Zeringue, Jr. passed away in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born in Modeste, Louisiana, on February 20, 1934. He served his country as a member of the United States Army. After he was honorably discharged in 1957, he joined the workforce. He had a long career as a welder, burner, and fitter. In his free time, he enjoyed wood carving.
He is survived by his children, Gayle Bencaz (Jay) and Steven A. Zeringue (Molly); step grandchildren, Nic Bencaz (Charlotte), Lauren Bencaz, and Andrew Botto; and step great grandchildren, Asher and Isaac Bencaz.
Antoine was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Tassin Zeringue; parents, Antoine J. Zeringue and Zoe Cedotal Zeringue; and brothers, Clarence Zeringue, Clifton Zeringue, and Percy Zeringue.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Catholic funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 11 AM. Visitation will begin at 9 AM. After the chapel service, Antoine will be laid to rest beside his wife in Lake Lawn Park.
