Carl Edward Benson, Jr., 87, of Mystic, CT, entered into Eternal life on August 7, 2022, in the comfort of his loving family, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, in New London, CT. Carl was born in Uncasville, CT, on November 5, 1934, to Agnes (Bobsien) Benson and Carl Edward Benson, Sr.
Carl graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1952. He enlisted in the US Army, July 1953. He was first stationed at Camp Kilmer, then, at Fort Dix, NJ. In October 1954, at age 19, Carl met the love of his life, Lillian Marie Stevko, of Irvington, NJ. They were engaged to be married in November 1954, just prior to Carl’s deployment to Korea, for active duty military service. Upon his return from deployment, Carl married Lillian Marie Stevko, on June 30, 1956. Shortly after marrying, Carl and Lillian moved to Mystic, where they resided for more than fifty years. Carl and Lillian were faithfully married for 56 years.
Soon after being married, Carl was employed by General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division, Groton, CT. Carl was, later, employed by Stone & Webster, as a Quality Control Inspector at the Millstone Nuclear Station, Waterford, CT and, subsequently, as a Quality Control Inspector, at the Electric Boat Quonset Point, RI facility.
Carl Edward Benson, Jr. was a devout Christian, a proud Military Veteran, a loving and faithful husband, and a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Carl is predeceased by his wife, Lillian, and sister, Agnes Taylor. He is survived by his son, James Benson, and wife, Ruth, of Hendersonville, NC; daughter, Joni Rylander, and husband, Mick, of Bristol; daughter, Susan Picken, and husband, Chad, of Groton, daughter, Mary Slater, of Mystic, and daughter, Kathy Benson, of New London. Carl is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The Benson family will receive relatives and friends, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Sunday evening, August 14, 2022, at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. A Roman Catholic Mass will be held at St Mary’s Church, 69 Groton Long Point Rd, Groton, CT, at 1:00 pm, Monday, August 15, 2022. Interment immediately following, at the St Patrick Cemetery, Depot Road, Uncasville, CT.
